Content

Project management is a discipline for planning, executing and controling resources to achieve specific goals. Projects as an organizational form are temporary with a defined beginning and end, and they are established for achieving specific goals and objectives. Projects in the service, hospitality and tourism industries benefits from application of these management method and techniques, both in each individual event and as organizational learning to gain competitive advantages.

Learning outcome

After completing the course, students are expected to have the following knowledge, skills and general competences.

Knowledge

  • Know the theoretical basis for modern project management.
  • Have insight into the characteristics of projects as an organization and ways of working.
  • Know the processes and structures relevant for medium and large sized projects.
  • Have knowledge of different premises for organizing a project.
  • Have knowledge of the demands and responsibilities, which lies with a project manager and be able to deal with the most common problems and challenges in various phases of the project.
  • Have an awareness of the importance of performance measures in projects from design, setup, implementation and control.
  • Have awareness of the how risk management is implemented in project management.

Skills

  • Be able to plan, structure control and evaluate projects.
  • Be able to use the most common procedures/methods for time-, cost-, people- and risk-management in a project setting.
  • Be able to communicate internally in the project organization using well-established project management terminology

General competences

  • Understanding the dynamics of planning, executing and controlling of projects.
  • Understanding of the role of Communication, Human Resource Management, Purchasing and Stakeholder management in relation to the project management process.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester.In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
