Content
Influence lines. Energy methods. Force method applied for calculation of deflections in statically determinate structures. Force method applied to analysis of statically indeterminate structures. Stress resultants due to concentrated and distributed load, temperature variation and support subsidence in case of statically indeterminate plane trusses, beams and frames. Moment distribution method for plane structures with no joint translation. Introduction to theory of plasticity.
Learning outcome
The course is to introduce methods for analysis of statically indeterminate structures, as well as to introduce basics of the theory of plasticity. Upon completing the course, the student shall:
- Be familiar with the linear and non-linear structural analysis
- Be able to calculate, draw and use influence lines for statically determinate structures
- Be able to calculate displacements of a statically determinate structure by using the unit load method
- Be able to calculate stress resultants in statically indeterminate trusses, beams and frames by using the unit load method
- Be able to calculate stress resultants in statically indeterminate beams and frames by using the moment distribution method
- Be familiar with the plastic capacity and plastic mechanisms for trusses, beams and frames

Course assessment
There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
