Content
The course aims to give the student an introduction to mechanical engineering and a foundation for the later courses in the study. This is achieved by learning basic technical drawing, 3D modeling, and using equipment in the department's laboratories and mechanical workshops. Through exercises and project work, the student will become familiar with the engineering profession in collaboration with other students.
The course consists of four modules:
- Drawing; introduction to technical drawing and 3D modeling
- Measurement techniques; introduction to tolerances and use of measuring equipment
- Materials; introduction to material technology
- Mechanical workshop; introduction to production techniques such as welding, turning, milling, and additive manufacturing.
Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- HSE regulations for the lab
- Fundamentals in geometric description of machine parts
- Knowledge about structure and microstructure of materials
- Have a basic understanding of machining deviations and tolerances, as well as relevant standards
Skills:
- Make simple technical drawings and make 3D models in a relevant 3D modelling software
- Create simple machine parts through production techniques such as welding, milling, turning, and 3D printing.
- Use measurement equipment in the lab
General competence:
- Plan and perform a work in collaboration with other students
- Able to interpret and analyse measurement results
