Master project (MUM3201)
The course involves specialization in, for example, a topic, repertoire area, a historical era or being a study based on a research question. It will be important to perspective the performance work on relevant theory. The main instrument is also the focus of this course. The individual main instrument teacher is the supervisor for their respective students, unless otherwise specified.

Content
The Master project must be an independent, critical and explorative piece of work with a clear focus.
The course requires the candidate to research one's own performative practice, specialize in, for example, a topic, area of repertoire or historical period, or other practice-based or improvisational challenges. The work must be independent, critical, and innovative, maintaining a clear focus on a defined topic.
Learning outcome
After completing and passing the exam in the course, the candidate should have acquired the knowledge, skills and general competence that enable him/her to:

The master project will reflect a high artistic level and degree of independence and conclude with a combination of performing expression and reflection/research. The exam involves giving a concert or demonstration lecture of 45-60 minutes duration in the autumn semester, divided into an estimated 2/3 performance/song/exercise and 1/3 oral presentation/reflection component, or half and half , depending on the subject and character of the work. For the supervisor, there should be a script for the textual presentation, but for the jury there are some key words, eventually supplemented by other material (score, etc.). The concert lecture should be intended for an audience consisting of master students. The presentation is followed by a conversation with the jury where the candidate is given the opportunity to answer questions and elaborate on aspects of the work.
Coursework requirements
100% compulsory attendance for teaching and compulsory participation in projects and concerts, the Master Forums included.
In order to take the exam in the course, the student must have approved all mandatory work requirements.

The different instrument groups will have different requirements and different forms of documentation. The requirements are specified in the academic groups' annual plans (e.g. number of seminars with active participation, etc.).
Project description that is submitted for approval at the end of the 2nd or 3rd semester. The project description follows a template which includes a preliminary title for the project, a description of the selected topic, a time-schedule, a preliminary performance/repertoire list, as well as the chosen form of documentation. Although this is a work in progress which can be edited, the initial project description should nevertheless be approved by the main instrumental tutor and the academic supervisor(s). All edits must then be approved by the tutor/supervisor. The student is solely responsible for the progress of the work, and must make regular arrangements with tutor and supervisor (delivering recordings, notes, written work etc.), in order to ensure progress.

Teaching is given by the main instrument teacher and, an accompanist (if any), and allocated hours are assigned in individual supervision for the theoretical /contextual aspects of the work.
Students are expected to attend all of the Master Forums. Students are responsible for keeping up to date with information provided on Canvas.
