An integrated part of Stavanger's lively cultural scene
Department of Jazz, Dance, PPU, and Music Production at the Faculty of Performing Arts is located on the Bjergsted campus close to the city center and in the heart of Bjergsted Cultural Park. Employees and students are performing musicians and dancers in Stavanger's lively cultural scene. Bjergsted Culture Park is established as a culture cluster for Stavanger and has an impressive music scene, characterized by an international atmosphere. Several of the neighboring cultural institutions work closely with the faculty in general and jazz programme in particular. Bjergsted Culture Park consists of a Stavanger kulturskole, which is a cultural school for children, the music and dance department at Stavanger Cathedral School (secondary school), Stavanger Concert Hall, and the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. Stavanger Jazzforum and the festival Mai Jazz are the most important partners of the jazz department. In the eastern part of Stavanger, you'll find Tou Scene and IMIR / RIMI, both contributing to a creative study environment for our dance students.
Study Programmes
The department offers studies at all levels in performing music with a specialization in jazz. Besides, we offer a Bachelor in Dance, 1-year programme in Educational Theory and Practice (PPU) in Creative and Performing Arts, and Music Production and Recording. From the autumn of 2020, we also offer the part-time course Digital Jazz Studies - DigJazz.
