What is Bolk?

Logo BOLK

The Kopinor Higher education license requires curriculum and other necessary learning material in the form of book excerpts to be registered for clearance in Bolk when it is copied and made available for the students. This will ensure that the contributors receive their remuneration. Note that Bolk is primarily a rights clearance system, but you can also extract files that you can share in Leganto. No paper compendiums will be created anymore.

Every time you share excerpts from a book (using Leganto), you must clear the rights in Bolk.

FAQ about Bolk

If you use the integrated solution in Leganto, you will have direct access to clear books. If you get the message "A Bolk request cannot be created because there is no Feide ID registered in Bolk for your user" this means we have to manually create a user for you. Contact Linda Johnsen at the library to be registered.

If you use Bolk's own website, you log in with Feide, but you may need to be registered in Bolk first. Once per semester we send lists of Feide IDs that should be granted access to KopiNor. Contact Linda Johnsen at the library to be registered.

You can register clearances in Bolk in two different ways. You can either send the request(s) directly in Leganto or register it on Bolk's own website.

"Request content file via Bolk (done in step 3)" is the default choice, and Bolk will automatically send you the files if they are in the system. If you already have the pdf files, you can select "Registration Only". Note that if you select "Request content file" but are told that "Content file is missing," it may take some time to get the files.

If you already have the files you should choose “No file delivery”. If you haven’t, you can choose “File delivery”. If the content is not available, you can request it, but it may take some time, and in some cases, it won’t be possible for Kopinor to add it. You can also choose to request digitization of literature in Leganto.

If you’ve searched using the title and / or the author’s name, but you can’t find the book you’re searching for, try searching using the ISBN. If the right book is not in the system, you click on “Literature search request”.

Kopinor will then add the book to the database, and you will get an e-mail when it has been added. You then need to go in, search for the book again, and add the relevant pages.

As a rule, you shouldn’t add journal articles to Bolk. The agreement always allows you to copy / scan one article from each issue of a journal, e.g. one article from Journal, vol. 7, issue 1, and one article from Journal, vol. 7, issue 2, etc.

If you want to use more than one article from any one issue, you should first check if the library subscribes to the journal. If we do, it’s better to tell the students to come to the library to get the articles. If you want to use an open access article, just link to it.

Yes, if the students are different, you do need to register twice.

You’ll need to add the pages you want in the usual way. You will get a message telling you that a request has been sent from Kopinor to the rights holder, and you will have to wait for an answer. There is no cost for asking!

There are three possibilities:

  1. You are allowed to do so, at the usual price.
  2. You are allowed to do so, but at a higher cost. You must then decide whether to accept this or not.
  3. Your copy request is not allowed. If so, you will need to either remove the extract, or remove some pages.

Sometimes a book is entered into Bolk with only a very few pages, and that’s why you get an error message. This is obviously a mistake and calling the support line is the easiest way to fix this. Kopinor can fix this in a few minutes usually.
You can call yourself at 23 10 74 74, or contact Linda Johnson at the library and she will call for you.

You shouldn’t need to, provided the person who registered the compendium originally chose to share it. Go to the front page and search for content as usual, but search in “Coursepacks” instead of books and journals.
