About me

Håvard Myklebust is the academic leader of the master study in Sports Science, academic coordinator for the employees working in Sports Sciences and Physical Education, and head of the teaching and testing lab, "Sports-lab", at th Department of Education and Sports Science at Faculty of Arts and Education. Håvard teaches biomechanics, theory of physical training, practical sports activities and quantitative methods in Sports Science.

Sports background

Håvard has a versatile sporting background where speed skating was his main sport. He was himself an active ice skater at national level until 2006 and coached young, later national-team skaters, from 2006-2009. In his master thesis, skating suits were investigated and from year 2015 he led the work to perfect the Norwegian skating suits in the lead up to the 2018 Olympics, commissioned by Olympiatoppen and the Norwegian Skating Association.

His doctorate, on the other hand, was about skating on skis, not on ice. Skating technique in cross-country skiing was investigated using sensor technology (Link).

 

Research areas

Short: Applied Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology

  • Optimization and development of equipment and effects of different training methods for different performance levels captures Håvard's interest, as well as measurement uncertainty and validation of measurement tools.
  • New (sensor) technology and the possibilities, as well as the effects of, "feedback".
  • Håvard is also responsible for the "Sports Lab", at IGIS, where he is following young athletes over time (longitudinal data).
