The Improving quality in clinical placement studies in nursing homes (QUALinCLINstud) project addresses the urgent need for improved quality and efficiency in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses in nursing home placements. This will be approached through a novel, collaborative, co-productive, social innovation and learning process between the nurse education system, student nurses and nursing homes.

Overall, the project has been acknowledged as positive holding great potential for value creation contributing to expand the current knowledge base concerning supervision and assessment practices in nursing home placements.
The finalized study, approved by the Norwegian Research Council, QUALinCLINstud was structured across four sequential work packages. The project aimed to identify improvement measures and document the utility value of user involvement in developmental processes and the value of an interactive digital educational resource applied in clinical placements, which are currently lacking in Norway.
In 2021, a digital educational intervention (DigiVIS) targeted to enhance nurse mentor’s supervision and assessment competence was developed and pilot tested in one of the case study settings. Following the pilot study, a comprehensive development process of an interactive web-based program targeting all stakeholder groups (student nurses, nurse educators, and nurse mentors) was initiated and resulted in the development of the interactive digital educational resource (digiQUALinPRAX). Workshops and dialogue meetings have been conducted as the main co-creation activity throughout the developmental process. Both processes were performed in close collaboration with NettOp, the department for digital development at the University of Stavanger (UiS). Throughout 2022-2023 the full scale interactive digital educational resource digiQUALinPRAX was tested and evaluated describing the outcomes and usefulness of this research project in bachelor nursing at campus and in decentralized nursing. Beyond this, in 2022-2023, four international overseas scholarships were granted for the doctorate candidates; Christina Tølbøl Frøiland at Roskilde University, Denmark and Ingrid Espegren Dalsmo (UiA) at University of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia including two researchers; professor Kristin Akerjordet (UIS) and Associate professor Kristin A. Laugaland (UiS). In 2023, the main activities have focused on data analysis, publications, and dissemination. Considering this, a half day seminar was arranged successfully at Sola conference hotel to finalize the project for the registered nurses and their mangers from the three involved nursing homes. Overall, the project has been acknowledged as positive holding great potential for value creation contributing to expand the current knowledge base concerning supervision and assessment practices in nursing home placements.
