About the project

Topics include social work with families, child welfare, intercultural understanding, restorative justice in the criminal justice system, mental health, unemployment and other labor market issues, and interagency/interprofessional collaboration and service integration. This project aims to further establish the long-term collaboration between the involved universities, enhancing innovation and improving links between higher education and employers, social enterprises and practice institutions.

A bilateral agreement between the University of Havana (UH) and the University of Stavanger (UiS) was signed in 2017. This collaboration is anchored at Department of social studies at UiS and at Department of Sociology at UH. The project will focus on shared subjects within social work, sociology and welfare studies that are of interest to both institutions in terms of education and research.

The project will prioritize master and PhD student mobility from UH to UiS. It will further support internationalization at the home institutions through joint PhD and Master supervision and guest lectures. "Intercultural practice", a flexible learning Master course (10 ECTS), will be jointly developed and offered at both UH and UiS. A conference with an associated book-length publication will be arranged at the end of the project period. The working title for the conference is "Cuban and Nordic Welfare: People´s experience of the welfare system"

27th November to 1st December 2023
