The project will examine the mental health of indigenous and ethnic minority youth, in order to develop digital health services adapted to their needs.
The InvolveMENT-team was successful in obtaining funding from the Norwegian Research Council (NRC) for a 4-year collaborative research project to improve the mental health of youth from minority backgrounds. It is scheduled to start in July 2023, with a budget of 25.7 million NOK, of which 14.6 million NOK is provided by the NRC.
The purpose is to adapt public digital mental health services (ung.no) to meet the needs of youth with national minority, indigenous and refugee backgrounds. The co-design process will result in culturally sensitive, equitable and sustainable healthcare services. It consists of four work packages, including a cohort study, a qualitative interview study, a co-design and implementation phase, and a randomized controlled trial. The research will be carried out by two PhD-Candidates, a Postdoctoral Researcher and 10 experienced researchers from SHARE and the two academic partners.
The academic partners include Queen Mary University of London and UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Regional Centre for Child and Youth Mental Health and Child Welfare. The project has 8 non-academic partners including the Norwegian Directorate of Health, secondary and primary health care service organisations, support and service development organisations, and organisations representing youth from minority groups.
