Sociology of everyday life: global issues in contemporary world (BSS360)
Sociology of everyday life: global issues in the contemporary world will focus on the basic sociological ideas and central questions of theories and concepts related to globalization and everyday life. This course aims to expand the students' understanding of sociological perspectives, by examination of the impact of globalization on people's everyday lives. Particular focus will be given to sociological theories and terms about areas with modern societal and political concerns as well as sociological theories of everyday analysis. Possible themes to be covered are: sociology of social movements; feeling sociology; gender sociology; sociology for digital technologies and emphasis is placed on how different sociological perspectives conceptualize and study such issues. The course will be structured in a way that will help students find a topic for their BA thesis and assist them in further developing a set of transferable skills -- including critical thinking, reasoning and problem-solving -- essential for successful progression to higher education or into professional employment.

After completing the course, students should be able to:
- Apply sociological perspectives, theories and concepts to the analysis of global and social phenomena in everyday life.
- Make the sociology concepts and theories of everyday life relevant to social debates.
- Analyze the implications of globalization on everyday life.
General competence
- The students will develop a sociological understanding of the relationship between globalization, social change and everyday life.
- On basis of sociological theory and concepts of everyday life, the student should have a well-developed platform for critical sociological analysis and be able to reflect and analyze different global processes’ impact on everyday life.
