Content

In this topic learning takes place in a professional environment outside the university, for example in a construction firm, an advisory consultant office or a municipal or government office. The student must find the appropriate workplace on their own. The course aims to give students practical experience and the opportunity to immerse themselves in selected issues related to practice. In cooperation with the student, workplace and lecturer, an agreement/contract and plan is deviced for how the internship and supervision is conducted. The evaluation will be made on the basis of a report from the student and a presentation. The report should contain a discussion of a specified issues related to business practices, as well as documentation on the work performed and certified timesheets.

Learning outcome

The course is a supplement to other topics, and when the student has completed the course, the following objectives will be achieved:

Knowledge:

  • Increased insight into selected topics and issues and in working life practical challenges.

Skills:

  • Increased ability in professional collaboration, as well as specialization in certain topics and present them in a convincing manner.

General competence:

  • Empowerment in theoretical and creative academic work.

Recommended prerequisites

Students must have completed a minimum of 90 ECTS according to approved education plan to be granted access to the practical training course.

The student must submit a individual, critically reflective report (incl. signed timesheet) on their practical training. This report is presented to students and teachers at an agreed time and place.The student will do a presentation about the internshipThe course has a continuous assessment. All parts must be passed to obtain a final grade in the course.NOTE: According to Regulations relating to studies and examinations at the University of Stavanger section 3-10 point 2, a student has 2 attempts in this course, with the opportunity to apply for a 3rd attempt.The student must spend 250 - 300 working hours on the course in total. The student must submit a signed timesheet together with the report.Report and presentation assessment criteria: pass/not pass.Both report and presentation are individual assignments.The presentation assignment needs to be approved to get access to the submission of the report assignment.

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students.
