Sports Psychology (IDR231)
The module sports psychology provides students with a fundamental introduction to psychological questions related to sports, physical activity and training. Relevant topics include motivation, cohesion, group dynamics, visualization, relaxation, psychological aspects of eating disorders, exercise compulsion, and burnout. Additionally, the course aims to promote an understanding of pedagogical aspects of sports activities and exercise management.

Upon completion, the candidate should be able to:
- Describe the historical development of sports psychology as a scientific discipline.
- Explain the psychological and pedagogical factors influencing individual and team performance.
- Elaborate on psychological aspects of eating disorders/disordered eating behavior, exercise compulsion, burnout, and sports injuries.
- Discuss the relationship between physical activity and health from a psychological perspective.
- Outline the didactic relational model.
- Describe children's psychological growth and development through their participation in sports.
- Discuss various coaching ideologies and their potential implications for the learning environment and talent development.

Upon completion, the candidate should be able to:
- Identify and analyze behavioral patterns and attitudes related to eating disorders/disordered eating behavior, exercise compulsion, doping, and burnout in sports.
- Apply basic pedagogical principles in sports activities.
- Analyze groups in light of group dynamic theory and justify measures to promote team performance.
- Analyze individual performance and justify measures to enhance motivation.

Coursework requirements
Requirements for sitting the exam/assessment
Mandatory attendance of 80% in lectures, mandatory attendance related to the practical implementation of relaxation training and visualization. In this module, it is assumed that students are active participants during lectures. Professional competence is developed through dialogue with students and lecturers, in case discussions, presentations, fieldwork, and thorough work with the course material. Such activities occur continuously throughout the education. Therefore, there is a requirement for a minimum of 80% attendance in the lectures. Course requirements must be approved to gain access to submit the final exam in the module.
