Applicants who hold a study right at the University of Stavanger for the upcoming semester, must apply through the digital student service desk.
Without study right at UiS
Applicants without study rights at UiS for the upcoming semester should apply through Søknadsweb.

When can I apply to single courses?
The online application system for the Autumn semester opens on 1 July. Application deadline is 1 August.
The online application system for the Spring semester opens on 1 November. Application deadline is 1 December.
I do not live in Norway. Can I apply?
The single courses are taught campus-based and it is not possible to take them online. Students from outside EU/EEA countries, who need a study permit to move to Norway, cannot apply for single courses.
When can I submit my documents?
As soon as possible after you register your application, and no later than the application deadline.
Which documents must I submit?
Which documents to be submitted depends on the admission requirements of the course you apply to.
What are the admission requirements to a single course you apply to?
Admission requirements to each single course can be found below under the relevant faculty.
The course which I want to apply to is not open for application. What to do?
If you have an agreement with a study advisor to take a course which is not listed as an open course, you must add the choice "ANNET" (other) in the application portal and specify the course code and name in the field for remarks.
I need to take some courses to complete my bachelor's degree. Whom can I ask for help in regard to which courses I can take?
Contact the study advisor of the relevant programme.
Who gets admission? Are there limited places for admission to single courses?
All qualified applicants to the single courses which are listed as open will get admission. The study places are not limited.
The University reserves the right to cancel any course for which fewer than 10 students are registered. This applies to elective courses, not compulsory courses.
Is there a minimum required GPA (Grade Point Average)?
The minimum GPA for admission to single courses which are part of a master’s programme is C on the ECTS grading scale.
When can I expect to get an answer to my application?
The results are usually sent in the middle of August for applications to the Autumn semester.

I have accepted the offer. What should I do next?
After you accept the offer, you will get a study right. when you get the study right, you will have to log in to studentweb in order to register for the semester, register for the exam and pay the semester fee.
How do I register for the courses?
In studentweb, you will have to put in the course code in order to find the relevant course and register to it.
When is the deadline to register and pay the semester fee?
The deadline for registration for the Autumn semester is 1 September, and the deadline for registration for the Spring semester is 1 February.
Why didn't I get admission to all the courses I applied to?
This is because either you were not qualified, didn't meet the required prerequisite knowledge, or the course you applied to was not listed as open.
I don't want to take all the courses I got admission to, what can I do?
In studentweb, you can only register the courses you want to take in the relevant semester.
The Norwegian Government has decided to introduce tuition fees for international students coming from outside of EU/EEA from the academic year 2023/2024.

Admission requirement
To qualify for admission to single courses at PhD-level, you must be either document enrollement in a doctoral program in technology, natural sciences, societal safety, urban planning, medicine at a degree-granting institution within the EU/EEA, or you must document participation in a research school.
Language requirement
As a general requirement, all applicants must meet the English language requirement.
International applicants must document one of the following tests with the specified results or better:
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language, Internet-Based Test (IBT). Minimum score: 90
- IELTS – International English Language Testing Service. Minimum score: 6.5
- Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
- PTE Academic – Pearson Test of English Academic. Minimum score: 62
The following applicants are exempt from the above requirements:
- Applicants who have completed minimum one year university studies in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the USA
- Applicants who have completed a master's degree in English in an EU/EEA country
