Dieuwer ten Braak is an associate professor of psychology at the Norwegian centre for learning environment and behavioural research in education | University of Stavanger (uis.no). Her work is centered around early childhood and cognitive development. She focuses on understanding how cognitive skills such as executive function and self-regulation develop, how they relate to academic and social skills, and how they can be promoted in early childhood. Her most recent interest is directed towards the effects of the context on children’s ability to engage executive function skills.

Ten Braak has been involved in several Research Council of Norway-funded projects focusing on promoting cognitive, social, and academic skills through playful learning in early childhood education and care (Forsiden - Lekbasert Læring). She is currently a work-package leader in SELMA (SELMA - Social and Emotional Learning & Life Mastery in Early Childhood Education and Care | University of Stavanger (uis.no)) where she and the team are developing and validating social-emotional assessments for children. She also co-leads a work-package in the Centre for Research on Special Needs Education and Inclusive Practice (SpedAims) working on a systematic review and meta-analysis of academic special education needs screening instruments and is involved in a meta-analysis on the effects of interactivity in digital books for the Sensory books – Coming back to our senses to transform children’s digital reading | University of Stavanger (uis.no) project.

Before her position at the Norwegian Centre for Learning Environment and Behavioural Research in Education, Ten Braak had a position at the Knowledge Centre for Education | University of Stavanger (uis.no) which synthesizes and disseminates research for the education sector.

Ten Braak has a BS in Psychology with honors (cum laude) and MS in Behavioral Science from the Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, and a PhD in Educational Science from the University of Stavanger in Norway. Her work has been published in journals such as Journal of Experimental Child Psychology, Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Learning and Individual Differences, Psychological Bulletin, and Early Childhood Research Quarterly.
