Kort om meg

With a Ph.D. in human geography from the the School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and, over 20 years of research in human geography and tourism, my main research interests revolve around place development in the wake of tourism, particularly focusing on the challenging role of tourism as a strategy in the sustainability transition. I am particularly dedicated to the following research fields.

1. Since my Ph.D. work on travel journalism and media image-making, I have been intrigued by the logic behind media-driven tourism. While my recent work concentrates on tourism development following popular culture, the same questions about who has the power to shape the meaning of place and the challenges related to sound tourism strategies still motivate my work in this field.

2. Over the years, I have been committed to the necessity of unlocking the full potential of public tourism governance for the realization of sustainability strategies in alignment with the UN Global Sustainability Goals. The underlying premise for this is the imperative for the tourism sector to be integrated into broader societal systems in which it operates.

3. I have a strong commitment to capacity-building through research–practice collaboration for successful sustainability work. My experience includes several collaborative projects with public tourism stakeholders at the local, regional, and national levels, primarily in the Swedish context.

My pedagogical portfolio encompasses a wide variety of bachelor and master courses (e.g., human geography, tourism, project management, social science research design and methods) and teaching styles, including thesis supervision at undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. levels. Since starting my position at UIS in October 2022, I have been teaching two courses: ‘Etikk og samfunnsansvar’ and ‘Reisemålsutvikling.’
